ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Dear John, Love Renée, PS Sam: When two strangers from opposite sides of the country move into the same downtown Mill Valley apartment building, meet, and realize they both love wine, they both enjoy whiskey, and they’re both a bit obsessed with songwriting, singing and playing guitar, a friendship is born and a duo is formed. Award-winning singer-songwriter Renée Harcourt of Blame Sally fame, and New York City transplant John McConnel are “Dear John Love Renée”, and together they deliver smart songwriting, tight harmonies and rootsy acoustic guitar picking all hovering in the Americana/Folk/Pop genre. Recently joining them to create the DJLR Trio is Sam Page on upright bass and harmony vocals. Their sound has been compared The Everly Brothers, Simon and Garfunkel and Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová, with a hint of Broadway, Radiohead and The Grateful Dead.

Jerry Hannan: A distinguished songwriter and entertainer, Hannan recorded his own song, "Society" with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, which is featured in Sean Penn’s film Into the Wild.  “I Thought I Was You”, written by Jerry and brother Sean Hannan also plays in Into the Wild.

In 2003, Jerry recorded his second CD Sounds Like a Story. A new song "DaDaDa" from the CD was featured in the film The Pledge (Jack Nicholson). He performed in Sam Shepard's play, The Late Henry Moss, at San Francisco's Theatre on the Square (along with Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Cheech Marin and Woody Harrelson). He also appeared as a raucous singer who offsets a romantic conversation between Harry Connick Jr and Sarah Jessica Parker in Sony Picture's Life Without Dick.

Described as "shades of Dylan and John Prine ...very Americana with a faint Irish lilt", Hannan's songs (like those of Springsteen, Steve Earle and Cat Stevens) speak of our everyday lives and the magic that we sometimes miss. He's a storyteller, known for his thought provoking lyrics and exuberant performances.  He has been called a Marin County treasure, often funny, sardonic in a good-natured way, highlighting issues like ecology, friendship, and love.
Raised on jigs and ballads in San Francisco's Irish community, Jerry Hannan grew up listening to the music of his Irish-born parents (The Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers), as well as Cat Stevens. As a youngster he took accordion lessons, switching to guitar in high school and playing in rock 'n roll bands.

Hannan's most recent recording, The Light Gets Brighter, features his latest gems including several songs on the upcoming soundtrack to the documentary film Mad Hannans.

The film Mad Hannans  - a documentary that tells the story of brothers Sean and Jerry -premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival in early October 2017 to sold out audiences.  Look for it on the big screen near you.

Kyle Alden: Award-winning singer/songwriter and folk musician Kyle Alden has appeared on stages throughout California, Colorado, the Pacific Northwest and Ireland. His third CD, Songs From Yeats’ Bee-Loud Glade–a collection of thirteen original folk songs inspired by poems of W. B. Yeats —received world-wide radio airplay and was on three “Best of 2011” lists among folk music DJs. As the 2012 grand prize winner of the Y-Tunes Song Contest for his settings of W.B. Yeats’ poetry, Kyle was honored to perform at the Hawks Well Theater in Sligo, Ireland in the summer of 2013.  As part of the annual Celtic- Appalachian Celebration in March 2015 he joined Mick Moloney and Athena Tergis in performing a selection of the Yeats songs at Symphony Space on Broadway in New York.

Recognized for his Irish traditional guitar accompaniment, Kyle has supported many top players in concert, including Gearóid Ó hAllmhuráin, Tommy Peoples, Paddy Keenan, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Liz Carroll, Athena Tergis, Andrew McNamara andAnn Kirrane, among others. Fluent on guitar, fiddle and mandolin, Kyle performs solo and with several roots-based bands– The Mild Colonial Boys (Irish/Americana), The Gas Men (Irish Trad) and The Shots (Irish/Americana). He co-hosts weekly and monthly traditional Irish sessions in San Francisco and Marin County, CA.

Kyle has been writing and performing pop, rock and folk songs since the early eighties, first as the bass player in The Young Republicans (a punk band who performed at the legendary Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco and the old Sleeping Lady, Fairfax) and more recently in songwriter showcases and house concerts in California and Oregon. Sometimes the sounds of electric guitars, bass, drums and electric piano are used in performances and recordings to expand the roots-based acoustic palette.
